Essence .itx Documentation (Randomri.itx)

[ Back ]

Randomripple produces realistic water ripples. These ripples are completely random, like the surface of water in a glass when you disturb it, or the surface of a pool with people swimming in it. This texture’s internal algorithm is actually related to the Caustics texture, though Randomripple makes a bump mapping effect, and Caustics applies colours. An interesting effect is to use them together, though the resulting surface looks nothing like water.

This texture is fully 3D.

REQUESTER TABS

  • Max Ripple Scale:
The size scale of the ripples, measured in Imagine units.
  • Bump Adjust -1..1:
The strength of the bump mapping effect. A value of 0 will disable the bump mapping, making the texture useless. So don’t do that.
  • Complexity (1..20):
The complexity of the ripples, which are being generated by a number of invisible wave makers. Using a higher number will increase the detail and randomness of the surface, but will make the texture render more slowly. After about 10 sources, the texture doesn’t change much visibly.
  • Time (seconds):
The time parameter. Morph it to produce animated rainfall. A morph rate of 1 unit per 30 frames is perfect, though you can change it for slow motion effects or something.
  • Fade Value:
This parameter allows you to control the strength at which the texture is applied to the object's surface; a value of 0.0 applies the texture at maximum strength, whereas a value of 1.0 makes the effects of texture invisible. MQ³
