The Linearsm texture is very similar to the Impulse Linear texture except for the added Sharpness control that allows you to make a smoother transition.
This texture will basically divide your object into three regions. One region will be your original object surface, one region will be a solid colour you can define, and the third region is the transition at the boundary between the two areas. Linearsm will split up your object based on the Z value of the objects texture axis. A point with a Z value higher than a specified value will be coloured.
